20 Most Anticipated Movies of 2015

You will get a crick in the neck if you continue looking backwards; it is time to look forward as 2015 brings a new slate of exciting movies that will hit the theatre in the next few months. We have waited for a really long time for some of these movies and can’t wait to finally see them on the big screen. Below have been listed some of the most anticipated movies of 2015:

  • Pixels

Directed by Chris Columbus and with a release date of July 24th, 2015, it is a live-action film about our planet being targeted by classic video games controlled by aliens. It would be a great sell for arcade gamers, especially when you throw in some amazing posters and a stellar cast that includes Kevin James, Adam Sandler, Brian Cox, Peter Dinklage, Josh Gad, Ashley Benson, Michelle Monaghan and Jane Krakowski.

  • Crimson Peak

Guillermo del Terro is back with another original horror movie with Crimson Peak and his name is enough to get it on the list of most anticipated movies. The movie is aptly named as it is basically a romantic ghost tale about a young writer who falls in love with a mysterious man residing in his mansion in the secluded mountains. Needless to say, the mansion is far from the ordinary. The director is referring to the movie as a ‘throwback’ as it is different from the common genre fare. Furthermore, with the effort put into designing the mansion, Crimson Peak could be something really great. Hitting the cinemas on October 16th, 2015, the cast of the movie includes prominent names like Charlie Hunnam, Tom Hiddleston, Jim Beaver, Jessica Chastain, Dough Jones and Mia Wasikowska.

  • Magic Mike XXL

Gregory Jacob returns with the sequel of Magic Mike on July 1st, 2015. The original movie delivered some wonderful performances with the creative team and cast and people were easily sold on the sequel thanks to a touching story and some funny dance moves. While XXL has dropped stars such as Matthew McConaughey, Cody Horn and Alex Pettyfer, there have been some worthy replacements. The cast includes Channing Tatum, Kevin Nash, Michael Strahan, Jada Pinkett Smith, Matt Bomer, Andie MacDowell, Gabriel Iglesias, Elizabeth Banks, Joe Manganiello, Amber Heard, Adam Rodriguez and Donald Glover.

  • Jurassic World

While there were mixed reactions to the first trailer, the world of Jurassic Park is too fascinating to ignore. The early marketing may have been questionable, but we are ready to let it go and allow the charming and funny Chris Pratt (The LEGO Movie, Guardians of the Galaxy) after his Hollywood-dominating movie last year to revive the franchise of Jurassic Park after a decade. Dr. Henry Wu is returns in this movie, which is excellent news for long time fans. Directed by Colin Trevorrow and releasing on June 12th, 2015, the cast includes Chris Pratt, Katie McGrath, Brian Tee, BD Wong, Irrfan Khan, Omar Sy, Jake Johnson, Bryce Dallas Howard, Ty Simpkins, Judy Greer and Vincent D’Onofrio.

  • Terminator Genisys

Releasing on July 1st, 2015, director Alan Taylor of Thor: The Dark World and Game of Thrones, has combined some great names including J.K. Simmons, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jai Courtney, Matt Smith, Emilia Clarke, Jason Clarke and Byung-hun Lee. After a couple of botched movies tarnished the brand of Terminator, the director has revisited the first two and best Terminator movies for salvaging the franchise. The ambitious and oddly named Terminator Genisys begins a brand new timeline by forgetting the Sarah Connor Chronicles TV Series and Terminator 3 & 4.

  • Spectre

After all sorts of box office records were broken by Skyfall all over the world and the James Bond series was re-solidified as one of the most important active movie franchises, Sam Mendes brings forth the 24th Bond feature on November 6th, 2015 with Daniel Craig playing 007 again. The rest of the cast is also impressive as it comprises of Ben Whishaw, Dave Bautista, Andrew Scott, Ralph Fiennes, Monica Bellucci, Naomie Harris, Lea Seydoux and Christoph Waltz.

  • The Martian

This sci-fi thriller is directed by Ridley Scott and stars Matt Damon as an astronaut who has been abandoned on Mars. It hits the big screen on November 25th, 2015 and has everyone excited as it also includes some other prominent names such as Jeff Daniels, Sean Bean, Kate Mara, Jessica Chastain, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Sebastian Stan, Kristen Wiig and Michael Peña.

  • The Fantastic Four

Even this is a summer blockbuster superhero movie directed by Josh Trank, there has been zero marketing for the reboot of The Fantastic Four by Fox. While it is difficult to know what to expect from this adaptation of the Marvel world, it is still on everyone’s radar thanks to the director and will come to the screens on August 7th, 2015. It is eagerly anticipated because it is expected to crossover with the X-Men eventually. The cast includes Michael B. Jordan, Tim Blake Nelson, Miles Teller, Jamie Bell, Kate Mara and Toby Kebbell.

  • Black Mass

While some recent movies of Johnny Depp have let us down in a major way, there is something about seeing him as the balding Whitey Bulger in the 80’s. The movie is based on the book published in 2001 titled Black Mass: The True Story of an Unholy Alliance Between the FBI and the Irish Mob, written by Dick Lehr and Gerard O’Neill. Depp will be sharing the screen with Joel Edgerton, Benedict Cumberbatch, Dakota Johnson, Kevin Bacon, Adam Scott, Sienna Miller, Corey Stoll, Juno Temple and Peter Sarsgaard. Directed by Scott Cooper, the movie’s launch date is September 18th, 2015.

  • Ant-Man

The littlest Avenger of the Marvel Universe may have the biggest impact on the cinematic world and it can pave the way for a Civil War in 2016. Not only does Ant-Man aims to share the original story of an ex-thief who becomes a hero, but also takes us back in time for meeting two of the founding members of the Marvel Comics’ The Avengers. Releasing on July 17th, 2015 and directed by Peyton Reed, the cast of the movie includes Paul Rudd, Judy Greer, Evangeline Lily, Michael Peña, Corey Stoll, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Douglas and Hayley Atwell.

  • The Good Dinosaur

The long-awaited and anticipated movie about Dinosaurs from Pixer finally arrives in the theatres on November 25th, 2015. Official marketing hasn’t yet released much about the movie, but whatever has been seen has got people excited about a movie from some of the creative geniuses at one of the best animation houses of the world. The movie is directed by Peter Sohn and voiced by Bill Hader, Neil Patrick Harris, John Lithgow, Judy Greer, Frances McDormand and Lucas Neff.

  • Inside Out

What if little individuals inside your brain could control your emotions and then got into conflict? This is the hilarious and unique screenplay of Inside Out. Directed by Ronaldo Del Carmen and Pete Doctor, the movie is a story about a girl named Riley who has to deal with the emotions of moving to a new place in a new city and going to a new school. It will release on June 19th, 2015 and Riley’s emotions have been expressed by Mindy Kaling, Lewis Black, Amy Poehler, Kyle MacLachlan, Lori Alan, Bill Hader, Diane Lane and Phyllis Smith.

  • The Jungle Book

Releasing on October 9th, 2015, the 3D live-action/animation combo is directed by Jon Favreau. It shows the story of the young boy (Neel Sethi) who is raised by jungle animals. Scarlett Johnasson, Ben Kingsley, Giancarlo Esposito, Bill Murray, Idris Elba and Lupita Nyong’o.

  • The Hunger Games Mockingjay-Part 2

The first part of the third installment let us down a little bit last year as it left us feeling woefully incomplete and acted only as a setup movie, but it did get everyone excited about seeing the conclusion of the Hunger Games series. In the second installment of the Hunger Games Mockingjay, Katniss and other survivors of District 13 have to take a last stand and unite the other districts against the Capitol. There is no setting up needed anymore because it is time for war. The movie will be released on November 20th, 2015 and is directed by Frances Lawrence. The amazing cast includes Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Julianne Moore, Donald Sutherland, Woody Harrelson, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Sam Claflin, Stanley Tucci, Elizabeth Banks, Jena Malone, Toby Jones and Jeffrey Wright.

  • Tomorrowland

This is a mysterious sci-fi movie which has connections to the theme park of Disney with the same name and is directed by Brad Bird. It is a story about a young girl who learns about the existence of a better and futuristic place and sets off on the journey of finding the real thing. The movie has been given a release date of May 22nd, 2015 and list of cast members include George Clooney, Britt Robertson, Hugh Laurie, Keegan-Michael Key, Judy Greer and Kathryn Hahn.

  • Mission Impossible V

The Burj Khalifa Tower, the world’s tallest building, was scaled by Tom Cruise for Mission Impossible-Ghost Protocol. For its sequel, we saw the actor on the side of a flying cargo plane in the video. As he returns to play the role of Ethan Hunt, Tom Cruise continues to redefine the possibilities for action stars as he brings back his crew, with the exception of Paul Patton for some new adventures. This follow up is directed by longtime collaborator of Tom Cruise, Christopher McQuarrie who also worked with him on Edge of Tomorrow as writer and Jack Reacher as director. Alec Baldwin, Rebecca Ferguson, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg and Jeremy Runner are some other cast members.

  • The Hateful Eight

It seems that Quentin Tarantino is just incapable of making bad movies. The Hateful Eight is back in production despite the fact that there was a script leak because of which it had been cancelled temporarily. To be released on November 13th, 2015, the movie is another Western, which follows a group of bounty hunters trying to survive a nasty storm after the Civil War and in typical fashion, the betrayals of the members turn to violence quickly. Cast members include Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Dern, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Channing Tatum, Walton Goggins, Demian Bichlr, Tim Roth, Kurt Russell and Zoë Bell.

  • Mad Max: Fury Road

The Mad Max series is making a return to theatre after thirty years and the role of Max Rockatansky, which was played by Mel Gibson originally, will now be taken up by Tom Hardy. Also, who is better suited to telling the story of the latest Mad Max wild adventure than the director-writer of the original trilogy, George Miller. With a release date of May 15th, 2015, the movie that uses the Road Warrior formula includes Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Zoë Kravitz and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

  • The Avengers: Age of Ultron

The Avengers was a huge success in every way possible as it became the third top-grossing movie of all time and proved that interconnected, crossover-heavy and larger franchises based on long-form storytelling can also achieve success. The Mightiest Heroes of Earth will reunite to kick off the 2015 summer blockbuster season and will battle Ultron, the greatest threat to the Marvel Cinematic universe as yet, along with a few new characters in their roster. Hitting the screens on May 1st, 2015, Joss Whedon brings the powerful cast including Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Elizabeth Olson, James Spader, Jeremy Runner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Paul Bettany, Samuel L. Jackson, Stellan Skarsgard and Mark Ruffalo together.

  • Star Wars: Episode VII- The Force Awakens

The most anticipated movie of 2015, hands down, is Star Wars 7. It has been long-awaited no doubt when Lucasfilm was acquired by Disney back in 2012 and it announced that the saga would continue. With a release date of December 18th, 2015, the Episode 7 is directed by J.J. Abrams and include some prominent names like Harrison Ford, Gwendoline Christie, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Daisy Ridley, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker, Andy Serkis, Peter Mayhew, Max von Sydow, Lupita Nyong’o, Carrie Fisher and John Boyega.
