Bad Wolves Top Emerging Artists Chart with ‘Zombie’ Cover

The Billboard Emerging Artists Chart sees Bad Wolves top the rankings, as the American metalcore band jumped 8 places, from No. 9 to land at No. 1 in the charts dated March the 24th.

The song was also present in the Billboard Hot 100 chart, as it debuts at No. 54. ‘Zombie’ was originally sang by The Cranberries and topped the Alternative Songs Chart in 1994. Its cover by Bad Wolves has done well too, as it rises three places from 8th to No. 5, in the Hot Rock Songs rankings as well.

According to Nielsen Music, in comparison to the week ending March 15th, the American band’s version of ‘Zombie’ has seen an uplift of 189 percent, for a total of 44,000 downloads this week. This increase has seen the track climb up from 27th to No. 2 in the Digital Song Sales chart for all genres. It was prominent in the Rock Streaming Songs chart as well, logging 5.1 million streams in the United States, a 27 percent increase, as it moved up to No. 6 from the 18th spot. The band have displaced LANCO at the top of the Emerging Artists chart, who have occupied the spot since the Jan 6th rankings. They are also the first rock band to have that honor since PVRIS that was No. 1 back in September.

The Emerging Artists Chart has its ranking calculated in a similar manner, to that of the Billboard Artist 100, using multiple Billboard charts to determine the ranking of the artists. The Billboard Artist 100 combines the Hot 100, the Social 50 and the Billboard 200. However, the Emerging Artists rankings are a little bit different, as artists and bands with an entry in the top 25, of either the Billboard 200 or the Hot 100 are excluded. Apart from that, acts that have managed equal to or more than 2 top 10s in the Billboard Hot 100 and/or the Top album rankings based on consumption metrics, are also factored out.

The original song ‘Zombie’ by The Cranberries also experienced gains of about 83 percent in sales with 5,000 downloads, while also seeing the U.S. streams rise by 14 percent for a total of 1.4 million hits.

Calum Scott too, was a gainer in the Emerging Artists Chart, as the British songwriter got into the top 10 for the first time, making the long jump from 37th to 4th. He owes it to his debut album ‘Only Human’ that has sold 9,000 equivalent album units to see him start the first week at No. 66 in the Billboard 200. Singles from the album have made appearances in the Adult Contemporary chart, with ‘You Are the Reason’ holding its position at No. 13, and previously Scott’s cover of Robyn’s ‘Dancing on My Own’, which is not currently on the charts but was No. 15 back in 2016.

Other artists in the Top 5 of the Emerging Artists include Jordan Davis at No. 2, Devin Dawson at No. 3 and Trippie Redd at No. 5.
